Meet the Presenter: James Cavanagh
James Cavanagh was working with ATM and Frame Relay back when
telecom industry leaders called them “kinky technologies”. Jim
Cavanagh has been using the Internet from the time it was inhabited
with Gophers, before there was any RISC, and in an era when GNU Emacs
was, well, new. He has been putting voice into packets and sending them
around the globe before it was called VoIP and before it challenged the
established world order of telecom. So, what can you learn from an old
telecom practitioner like Jim Cavanagh? If you are like several
thousand people every year, you can learn a lot: from the dozens of
articles he has written, his free 300+ page "The Definitive
Guide to the Successful Deployment of VoIP and IP Telephony" or
five other books, or from his VoIP and VoIP security classes. Class
participants learn as much from Jim’s stories of developing the
global Voice over Packet architectural blueprint for a Fortune 2
company as they do hearing his insider stories of the development of
standards and products. They gain as much insight from his firsthand
accounts of US government’s early adopters of VoIP as they do from
his tales of intrigue as DoD tries to convert the mammoth governmental
nets from IPv4 to IPv6 before “it’s too late”! They enjoy his
insight and enthusiasm and his analysis and candor. And so can you.
During January Jim will be returning to Washington DC for a rare five
day deep dive into the business, technical, procurement, implementation
and operational aspects of VoIP. Detailed Bio.
