Meet the Presenters: Jim Cavanagh, Max Main, Frank Ohrtman
James P. Cavanagh, a Principal Member of the Eogogics
Telecommunications Faculty, spends most of his waking hours helping
clients understand how they can cost- effectively and securely harness
the rapidly growing power of IP-based services and how they can
future-proof their communications. His clients include government
agencies, service providers, carriers, and others. Responsible for teaching the Eogogics courses on NGN, IMS, EoIP, SIP, VoIP, Mobile IP, IPSec, IPV6, MPLS, SNMP, and other networking technologies, he is renowned for his ability to explain complex ideas in terms that are easy to understand as well as entertaining and allows them to be put to work immediately. His rich career has spanned X.25 and ISDN to Web 2.0 and Unified Communications. He has written or edited half dozen books and hundreds of articles and white papers. Max Main, a Principal Member of
the Eogogics Telecommunications Faculty, is a widely known and
respected presenter, consultant, and author. Over the past 12 years, he
has published five books and taught 100’s of classes on state-of-the
art telecommunications systems to diverse audiences worldwide. His
course repertoire includes 3G LTE/4G, WiMAX, OFDM/MIMO, UMTS/HSPA,
EVDO/EVDV, GSM, GPRS, EDGE, CDMA, WAN/LAN systems, VoIP, microwaves,
satellites, digital home technologies, and network security. Max is a
frequent guest speaker at industry trade shows on trends in wireless
regulatory and standards issues.
Max’s teaching career builds on his rich 30+ years corporate experience as an RF Engineer, Consulting Engineer, Engineering Manager, and CTO. He has held engineering and project management positions with Qualcomm, Computer Sciences Corporation, and Northrop Grumman. He has been immersed in the hands-on design and deployment of many pioneering wireless systems in diverse technologies. His clients have included Motorola, US Air Force Logistics and Systems Commands, US Department of State, White House Communications Agency, and various national security agencies. He also serves as a subject matter expert (SME) and senior consultant on international telecommunications policy and wireless technology trends for a large venture capital management organization. Frank Ohrtman, a senior member of the Eogogics
telecommunications faculty, offers training and consultation on
telecommunications technology and strategy including RFP design and
vendor selection. His technology expertise includes WiMAX, WiFi, and
VoIP. His work as a trainer and consultant builds on his 20+ years
experience in telecommunications and electronic warfare. His clients
include the Government of Canada, Tricom (Dominican Republic), WorldNet
(Puerto Rico), Ujet Holdings (Netherlands), leading Motorola dealers,
and larger rural telcos and WISPs (“Wireless Networks in Rural
America”). Among his current clients are those wishing to take
advantage of the Broadband Technology Opportunities Program
(“Stimulus”). Mr. Ohrtman is a published subject matter expert on VoIP, SIP, Wi-Fi, and WiMAX. His vision of the near future of telecommunications is contained in his book “The Next Telecom Boom” which provides a foundation for his training courses and consulting practice where IP Multimedia Subsystems (IMS) presents a “flat” architecture for communications services such as VoIP, IPTV, mobile VoIP, and data. WiMAX and other 4G wireless services offer physical layer alternatives. Author of several books, Frank wrote his first book, “Softswitch: Architecture for VoIP”, for McGraw-Hill. He published two more books with McGraw-Hill including “Wi-Fi Handbook” and the “WiMAX Handbook”. He went on to self-publish “WiMAX in 50 Pages” and “The Next Telecom Boom”.
